I'll start this blog post by saying thanks to everyone who responded to the last one. I started by responding, but I ran out of steam, so I apologise to those who might have thought that I wasn't responding to you.
Thank you also for your messages of support. Your good wishes for improvement are much appreciated. Sadly, the main situation upsetting me can only get worse. It's not a case of waiting for things to get better, but of adjusting to every new piece of information and getting through day-by-day.
However, there is a plus side to things at the moment. The second draft of 'Some Hope' is finished, with a tighter plot and a more reasonable ending. Of course, there's no happy ending - not for the main characters anyway. But the ending fits much more into the scheme/theme of the book, so I'm quite satisfied.
The work isn't over yet. There's still an intense line-edit to do and some holes in the plot to fill in. I've entered the novel into consideration for a mentoring scheme, which might also provide me with the contacts to get an agent and a publishing contract. Keep yr fingers crossed for me.
So what's next? Stories to write - so nice to not feel like I'm cheating on the novel by spending time with them. And the next novel to research. I've always loved King Lear, since I studied it at Sixth form. I want to investigate the possibilty of turning it into a very English novel...
Thoughts go out tonight to those people stranded by the volcano cloud. And to anyone who's suffering. You're not alone.
